Prayers
Create in me a clean heart, Oh God, and renew a right spirit with me." "God help my unbelief." The medicine of prayer is relief. In the dialogue with the Holy Spirit prayer ascends to the realm of the soul, that place of residence of the source of our divine life. God is the infallible judge of created and creative life, and therefore, we turn our human intelligence and imaginations over for his review. If we confess our sins, we are absolved of them. If we ask for right direction, it is given. We pray for our lives, our world, our church, our fellow humans, our clergy and ourselves.

The Missionaries

We come to the place of rituals from a long stay in the islands
Where shipwrecks match tides and rocks, where wind gusts blast
The land with water from the heavens...
Where we were shunted from harbor and haven
While serving and searching for truth.

Many houses of worship and shipwrecked worshippers called
To us along the way - we were hard put to find God in those places.
In the spirit of place, in the place of the spirit, we found an empty
Cave, an idle current, a people cold to our ways.

As the earth groans for you, in need of the love of your making
Spurning you, churning beneath, casting up an inferno of stones
Just so we groan for you Oh God, for a compassionate land,
Groan for those of Your nation...

From the unsafe islands, the unsheltered harbors,
From places where we may gnaw through stone for truth
We seek thy goodness for the people.
Keep us in ritual peace in the communion of thy daily bread.
